iSANE

Solstice-Mind Matters is involved in The International Study of ADHD Neurofeedback Efficacy (iSANE) which will investigate the efficacy of Neurofeedback (NF) on EEG brain function, cognitive performance, clinical symptomatology and behavior in 1000 ADHD subjects.

This study will determine the short- and long-term effects of neurofeedback (also known as brain wave (EEG) training) with males and females (ages 6 to 17) who have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Children who have a history of or are currently experiencing attention problems, hyperactivity, and/or impulse control problems are invited to participate. Only those taking no medication or on psychostimulants (e.g. Ritalin, concerta, dexamphetamine) are able to participate.

We are looking for research participants

Commitment: Participants will attend three testing sessions and complete up to 20 weeks of brain wave training sessions. Testing visits will involve questionnaires, computerized tests, and measurement of EEG (brain waves). Sessions will involve learning to produce “calming” brain waves through training called neurofeedback. Some people describe it as being like a video game controlled by your brain’s activity. It is painless and has minimal risk.

Training sessions will be completed within 5 months after your original testing session. Each one is about 45 minutes. Sessions will be 2 to 3 times a week for 14 to 20 weeks (a total of 40 training sessions). One testing session will occur at the end of your sessions. Six-months after your last testing, you will be asked to come in for one hour.

Participants will not be compensated for their time but will be entitled to 10% discount for the assessment.

Benefits: this an opportunity to experience a more natural alternative treatment option for ADHD related symptoms as well being a part of the supportive, understanding and caring environment at Solstice-Mind Matters

2. The Role of Electroencephalographic Biofeedback in Evidence Based Treatment of ADHD

There is a considerable body of research evidence showing the effectiveness of neurofeedback, also called EEG biofeedback or neurotherapy for ADHD. Dr. Hirshberg was recently asked to contribute an editorial to an international neurology journal called Expert Review of Neurotherapeutics on the place of EEG biofeedback in evidence based treatment of ADHD. This editorial was published in April 2007 and is available for download by clicking here.

More about the study:

The goal of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Neurofeedback in ADHD treatment. The Brain Resource testing methodology will provide a standard for measuring the change with Neurofeedback therapy and provide objective evidence to test industry claims about its efficacy in treating ADHD.

The scope and scientific rigor of this study has the potential to help change the way Neurofeedback is perceived and recognized in clinical practice.
