What is NeuroFeedback Training?
Neurofeedback training operates on the principle of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning dictates that the human brain will tend to repeat behaviours that have resulted in it receiving a reward in the past. The brain congratulates itself whenever it achieves a goal by releasing endorphins. Endorphins are the naturally produced family of hormones that cause us to feel good. It is thought that the brain remembers the state it was in at the moment these endorphins were released. Then, because the endorphins feel good, the brain tries to replicate that state. It wants to feel good again. Eventually, this will become a habit and the brain will automatically move into the new state without the need for an external reward. When this automaticity is achieved, the brain will stabilize in its new activation pattern. Neurofeedback training encourages you to break unhelpful brain activation habits and replace them with more helpful habits.
NeuroFeedback Training is the advanced brain training technique being adopted by elite athletes across the world to give them the edge over their opponents. Members of the Italian football team took advantage of the advanced brain training technique to help them keep a focused mind during pressure situations in the recent FIFA World Cup. Other athletes have also taken up the challenge, training their brains prior to an event to allow them easy access into an elite state of mind known as “the zone” (e.g., the American Athletics Team and the South African Rugby Union Team).
We are amazed with the process of NeuroFeedback and the results we are seeing. With specialized equipment and computer programs, the patient sits in front of a screen with one or two sensors on their head and two behind the ears. The sensors are placed in positions on their head previously determined by the brainwave profile and a small transmitter is attached to their arm. Personalised protocols are set up for the client in a computer program called BioExplorer. The client calmly sits in front of the screen without a mouse or touchpad and his/her brain controls the computer. When they are thinking in the desired brainwaves we have set into the computer, the movie goes on the computer. The brain is rewarded every time the movie goes, releasing endorphins. The brain soon learns and self corrects, and produces new neuronal pathways. For more information on Neurofeedback please follow the link: http://www.ansa.au.com/Neurotherapy.htm
Our Centre is dedicated to the development of Personalised Evidence Based Neurofeedback Therapy and Peak Performance Training. From our 3 year’s experience with researching and using Neurofeedback in our clinical practice we have come to believe that Neurotherapy is a very important emerging therapeutic intervention of our time. There is still a lot of work needed to be done to scientifically prove the effectiveness and efficacy of Neurotherapy for certain conditions. At this stage substantial evidence has been accumulated to show that Neurofeedback can improve symptoms of ADHD and Epilepsy.
Solstice-Mind Matters is involved in the International Study of Neurofeedback Efficacy . Please follow the link to find more information on iSANE CLICK HERE
We will shortly provide comprehensive information to support the use of Neurotherapy and other biofeedback modalities. Please register here for our news update on neurofeedback and ADHD:
